WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Senior attacker Stephanie Kienle posted 11 points, breaking the NCAA all-time scoring record in the process, as No. 4 West Chester topped visiting East Stroudsburg, 25-4, in the regular-season finale for both schools Saturday afternoon.
West Chester (16-1, 14-0 PSAC) completed its second consecutive undefeated regular season in PSAC play while running its conference winning streak in the regular season to 39 straight games. East Stroudsburg (11-6, 8-6) finished the regular season in fourth place and will return to West Chester for the PSAC semifinals on Tuesday at South Campus’ Turf Field.
Kienle scored three times and assisted on eight other tallies to break former teammate Katelyn Martin’s NCAA record for career points. She now has 370 points in her four-year career. Martin registered 365 points during her career at West Chester.
Kienle’s magic moment came at 23:16 of the second half when she scored unassisted to give the Golden Rams a 17-2 advantage. The local product out of Henderson High School has scored 207 career goals and assisted on 163 others.
This year, Kienle has posted 124 points as she continues her assault on her own NCAA record of 140 points in a single season, which she set last spring.
Malvern, Pa., native Nicole Haines scored three goals for West Chester and secured six draw controls as the Rams enjoyed a 20-9 advantage in that category.
Claire Grimwood scored four times, and Jackie Baker scored twice with four assists added to her total. Gina DiDomenicis posted five points (3G, 2A) and Courtney Whiting recorded a hat trick.
Katy Crouse caused six turnovers and picked up four ground balls to lead the defensive effort. Lauren Tatios corralled three draw controls as well.
West Chester goes for its fifth consecutive PSAC tournament championship with a semifinal matchup against the very same East Stroudsburg Warriors at South Campus Turf Field on Tuesday, April 29 at 4 p.m.
Tickets to the 2008 PSAC Women's Lacrosse postseason tournament are $7 for adults and $2 for children. Students, carrying a valid ID from PSAC institution, are admitted free. No complimentary tickets are available for PSAC postseason events.
Tickets will be available at South Campus' Turf Field prior to Tuesday's semifinal.
The winners of the two semifinals will meet at the home of the highest advancing seed on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. for the 2008 PSAC Championship Game.
